Muscat, Nov 14:<\/strong>\u00a0Mangalorean Catholic Center of the Parish (MCCP), Muscat conducted the qualifier round of the ‘Gulf Baila Naach’ on November 4, titled locally as ‘Naach Baila Naach’. Gulf Baila Naach is a competition organized by Mangalore Cricket Club Qatar, as part of its silver jubilee celebrations for all Mangalorean Konkani Catholics residing in Kuwait, UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Qatar. The finale is scheduled for April 2017.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

In a competition that saw splendid\u00a0performances by six couples, Deepak D’Souza and Glenda Castelino were adjudged winners. They will now compete in the final round to be held in Qatar.<\/span><\/p>\n

Parish priest of Sts Peter and Paul Church Ruwi, Fr Raul Ramos, and spiritual director Fr Marian Miranda facilitated the MCCP in conducting this event in the Parish Hall.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

The event commenced at 5.30 pm with a prayer song which was sung by Canan D’Souza, Joel D’Souza, Ida Pinto, Ruby Rodriguez, Leanne D’Souza, Cavin D’Souza and Joel Mendonca. The song was organized by Canan D’Souza. Triven Goveas accompanied on the keyboard. Dilip Correa, president of MCCP for the current year welcomed the audience. Melita Alva led the audience in prayer. Ligory D’Mello, a very well-known businessman from the Mangalurean community in Oman was the chief guest for the programme. He was welcomed by Dilip Correa with a floral bouquet.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Joel Mendonca, a young and talented singer and compere conducted the entire event meticulously in his unique style.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Trescilla Menezes read out the rules of the Naach Baila Naach competition. Lavina D’Sa introduced the judges of the competition. Silvy Penha, winner of Middle East Naach Baliye 4, 2009 and first runner-up of Jhalak Dhiklaja, 2012, a renowned dancer who is trained in various dance forms, was one of the judges. She was welcomed with a floral bouquet by Jessie Periera. Arun Lobo, owner of Feet Beat Art Center, Dubai, who has also choreographed over more than 500 dances in various events like Dubai shopping festival and judged the Naach Baila Naach competition held in 2012 in Dubai, was the other judge, who was welcomed with a floral bouquet by Dilip Correa. Naveen Mascharenhas took care of the entire stage management.

All the 6 couples put up great performances and the entire audience gathered at the hall were excited and commented that the competition was extremely tough and the professionalism in the choreography could be felt from all the participants.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

All the participants were honoured with certificates and mementos. The judges were honoured with a token of appreciation by Stanely Fernandes and Clarence Pinto. Arun Lobo and Silvy Penha expressed their views and explained some Baila dance techniques to the participants.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

During the second half of the programme the audience witnessed various talents hidden among the members of MCCP. Around 30 performances were staged and around 45 participants took part in the show ‘MCCP Rising Stars’. This was a talent show that was organized keeping in mind the theme of the year ‘Bhaas Sankruti Gaavn Amchi Asmitai Jaavn’, wherein all the participants exhibited their hidden talents in Konkani and some displayed the tradition of Mangaluru through their acts. Each of the participants were honoured with a certificate and a memento. Ashok Pinto proposed the vote of thanks.

The results of the Naach Baila Naach competition were much awaited by the audience. As Dilip Correa announced the winners, the audience gathered up with festivities to congratulate Deepak D’Souza and Glenda Castelino who qualified to the final round of Gulf Naach Baila Naach to be held in Qatar in April 2017.<\/p>\n

MCCP said that it is greatly indebted to the unending support rendered by various people who have helped the Association in organizing the show. DJ Loveline Rego, had done a fantastic job by handling the music for over 50 artists of the day. Joachim D’Souza and Gerwyn Dias took care of the photo coverage. Lancy Lobo beautifully decorated the hall and stage with a theme of peach and gold. Sudhir KP handled the lighting meticulously for the show. Zahrat Al Rawdha extended its support for printing lovely designed banners, and Monica Fernandis took charge of the beautiful power point presentation at the venue.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

The support and the encouragement from the community members and well-wishers enabled Team 25 to conduct all the events in an organized manner. Team 25 said that it looks forward to greater support for all its future programs.
