Muscat, Mar 24: The Lenten season being the period of sacrifice, repentance and prayer, the Konkani Catholic Community of Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ruwi organised a Spiritual Day to bring together all the faithful to spend a day in the presence of the Lord.

All community members were asked to make time from their busy schedules and spend some time in prayer and reflection so that they can truly prepare themselves spiritually for the glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ on the Easter Day.

The call did not go unheeded as large number from the Konkani community assembled right from 7 am at the main hall of Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ruwi recently. The series was put forth with joint effort from Mangalorean Catholic Centre of Parish (MCCP) and Goan Community of Oman (GCO).

The day’s activities began with praise and worship by the community choir group rendering soulful hymns and prayers to ring in the solemn and prayerful atmosphere required for the occasion.

This was followed by an hour of reflection by the spiritual director of the community Fr Wilson Rumao. Fr Wilson as well as other priests then heard Confessions of the faithful as it is an integral part of preparation for the Easter. A film on ‘Seven Sorrows of Mother Mary’ was viewed, while the confessions were going on.

A holy Mass in Konkani was celebrated following the confessions. The Mass marked excellent choir again from the community members. After a short tea break, the congregation assembled again and this time for the Way of the Cross, which was presented with enactment in Konkani to enhance the involvement quotient of the Konkani speaking faithful.

The enactment of the Way of the Holy Cross was directed by Walter Mendonca and co-ordinated by Lancy Lobo. Background sound effect was provided by Apolinaris D’Souza. While choir headed by Savio Dsouza, sang poignantly, the commentary was excellent. Each of the 14 station of the Way of the Cross was enacted and presented very beautifully by the very talented artists / actors from the community and it touched the hearts of all those present. Many were very emotional and could not hide their tears as they relived the passion of Jesus Christ.

The enactment of the way of the Holy Cross will be repeated on Holy Friday, March 25 at the Sts Peter and Paul Church, Ruwi for the spiritual benefit of the whole Catholic congregation of the parish.

MCCP president, thanked all those who supported to put up the event very meaningfully and the congregation.
